To characterize Kyiv October 1917, a comparison with the Old Testament Babylonian tower and the mixing of languages is fully suitable. One of the largest cities in the former Russian Empire in that revolutionary year was rapidly plunged into the chaos of the Civil War. The citizens of another country suddenly ceased to understand each other, and the “mixing of languages” occurred: the defenders of the already overthrown of the Provisional Government, Ukrainian and Russian Bolsheviks, Ukrainian nationalists, various right -wing and left -wing parties. And all with weapons in their hands fought for power in the city. In addition, there are still Czechs, Slovaks and Serbs, by the will of the chance, who found themselves in the city and became involuntary participants in a terrible and bloody drama. And, of course, hundreds of thousands of townspeople who became hostages and victims of the political struggle, erupted on the streets of their city.
This book proposes its own version of the story about revolutionary events in Kyiv, which occurred at the end of 1917. A variety of opposing forces left behind an extensive number of memoirs and documents. Some of which all this time existed in parallel, not subject to comparative analysis. Each opposing side described what is happening in its own way, thereby creating myths that often came into conflicts with facts and documents. Documents that were previously unknown in Russia are of separate interest in some interest. A comparative analysis of all collected sources made it possible to more objectively and volumily describe the events that occurred in October 1917 in Kyiv
