This essay considers the problem of the origin of the image of the biblical king Saul. By building logical chains based on a comparison of the descriptions of the Old Testament chronicle with the well -known facts of the ancient history of the Middle East, the author derives a person from the darkness of centuries - or rather, personality - historical figures that have become prototypes of the biblical character. To surprise, these prototypes were not related to the history of ancient Israel, but were the ruling individuals of the neighboring, greater kingdom: ancient Egypt. The author managed to see the real historical picture behind biblical legends and, perhaps, launch a new view of the Bible, in particular, on the book of the Prophet Samuel, as on an invaluable source of our knowledge about ancient Egyptian history
