The Pechenegs were the union of Turkic nomadic tribes. At the end of the VIII - early IX centuries, they occupied the steppes between the Volga and the Urals. There, the Pechenegs created a tribal union, which included local Sarmatian and part of the Finno-Ugric tribes. The appearance of the Pechenegs in the southern borders of the East Slavic tribes coincided with the time of the formation on the lands of the latest Old Russian state. The Russian-Pecheneg wars that began in the X century were a series of military conflicts for a little more than a century and wore the character of the so-called small war. The fighting ended, as a rule, with a lightning -fast raid of the liver on Russian villages or cities and equally quick departure. The main task of the Pecheneg raids was the seizure of prey (slaves, cattle, property), and therefore the Pechenezh horde did not threaten the independence of Russia, but, despite this, it caused great harm to agriculture, human and material resources of Russia.
The next book of the series tells about these wars and that brutal time
