Nikolai Fedorovich Kaperev (1847-1917) - an outstanding historian of the Church, Honored Professor of the Department of General Civil History at the Moscow Theological Academy. His pen belongs to the largest scientific research and publications on the history of the split in the XVII century. and the activities of Patriarch Nikon. A real scientific revolution is associated with the name of this wonderful scientist, which made it possible to reassess the church-canonic rightness and political cleanliness of the main parties involved in the “dispute about faith”. N.F. Kapterev began to consider the causes and course of the church reforms of Patriarch Nikon in a new way. His assessments of the split of the Russian Church were significantly different from the assessments of all previous researchers. The most important merit of the scientist was the clarification of the influence of the ritual reform of Patriarch Nikon on the emergence of a split. In his fundamental work "Patriarch Nikon and Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich" N.F. Kaperev once again questioned the conclusions of the whole generation of researchers, led by N.I.
