The book belongs to the pen of an outstanding historian and archaeologist, an expert on the culture of ancient and medieval Rus" Acad. B.A. Rybakova, the founder of the Patriotic School of Medievists, is the first volume of his fundamental study on the history of the origin and development of paganism of the ancient Slavic-Russian ethnic group.
In the first part of the book, the author invites the reader to plunge into the millennial depths of the Stone Age, in which the oldest hunting and agricultural beliefs of the Pre -Slavic tribes were born, which served as a natural source of the mythological and cult system with which our large conflicting ideas about paganism are associated.
In the second part, the author traces the formation of Pre-Slavic culture in a later period of the Ethnogenesis of the Slavs, characterized by the development of a predominantly agricultural culture and its influence on burial rites, the structure of sanctuaries and ancient mythological representations in their relationship with the Indo-Iranian and ancient Greek pantheons of the gods.
In the third part, the author considers the process of forming sustainable ideas of the Slavs about goddesses and gods and comprehensively justifies the original point of view on the cult of the god of the clan and mornedness, using both extensive archaeological and ethnographic material, and extremely diverse and still insufficiently studied Slavic folklore.
The book is addressed to students and scientists of humanitarian specialties, as well as the vast circle of readers who are interested in the origins of the ancient Slavic beliefs and cults
