The composition of the late Roman historian Jordan "On the origin and acts of the Getica" is one of the largest works of the era of the early European Middle Ages, one of the most interesting sources in the history of the whole era as a whole. Jordan sets out the historical fates of the Geta (ready), starting from the time when they left Scandinavia and landed near the mouth of Visla. He describes their advancement south, to the Black Sea, and then west up to Italy and Spain, where they formed two powerful states - Vestgots and Ostrogoths.
Not only as a researcher who relied on written sources, but also as an eyewitness to many events, the Jordan presented in his presentation a grandiose picture of the “great resettlement of peoples" in the IV-V centuries. He outlined the movement of tribes from the east and north and their struggle with the Roman Empire on its Danube borders, in its Balkan and Western provinces. The gigantic historical panorama includes vivid pictures of the most fateful events for the entire European civilization of events - the invasion of the formidable warrior of Attila to Rome, the “battle of peoples” on the Catalan fields, the death of the Roman Empire, the first religious wars, etc. Of great interest are information about the oldest Slavs on Vistula, Dnieper, Dniester and Danube. The essay was brought by the author to his days. He finished his work in 551
