The book is the result of the many years of work of the author to study ancient Russian literature as the historical integrity considered in its multidimensionality and imagery. The work consists of three sections: Chronicle and literature, soul and body, saints and their rescuers. In the first section, the main attention is focused on aspects of literature of the chronicle narrative, elements of future literature within the early medieval text, mainly “Tale of Bygone Years”. The second section examines the semantics of the use of concepts “spirit”, “soul”, “heart”, “mind”, “body”, “flesh” in different -shred texts of the XI -XII centuries. The third section analyzes the ways of depicting heroes and the form of manifestations of copyright positions in early life narratives, the traditional and original in the becoming ancient Russian hagiography is clarified.
