Norway, the founding member of NATO, throughout the Cold War supported a complex balance: the faithful allied with the United States was accompanied by good neighborly relations with the Soviet Union, although incidents occurred regularly. Over the past decades, there has been no trace of the basic policy: Norway is now included in the integrated system of American strategic interests in the north of Europe and in the Arctic.
