This book is the first in Russian ethnography a comprehensive study of the plains of the Hodgimalayan regions included in the state of West Bengal: Darjing, Jalpayguri, Alipurduar and Koch-Bihar, which make up the North Bengali region. Six chapters of the book analyzes history, natural and cultural landscapes, culture, social and ethnic composition of the given territory, past and real peoples of Bodo (Kachari), Rabh, Sword, Toto, Dhimal, Rajbansi and others, the phenomenon of tea plantations, ethnopolitical movements, according to -therally representing a possible future development of the region, differently sharing and imagining it. The work was performed on the basis of many years of field ethnographic research by Svetlana Ryzhakova and a wide range of literature and archival materials
