This book considers the life of the Russian metropolitan nobility of the beginning of the 19th century, which is universal thanks to the conventions and unspoken codes adopted in society, emotions, some of which were appropriate to demonstrate, and part should be suppressed. The book, the heroes of which lived in an era, later called the golden age of Russian culture, is replete with examples from biographies, memoirs, letters, fiction and can serve as an accessible introduction to the history of the everyday life of the Russian nobility. As the aristocrats of the 19th century talked among themselves - spouses, relatives, friends, bosses and subordinates, as the feast was, how they kept themselves in the days of joy and grief, what etiquette norms considered necessary to teach children - all of this can be learned from the work of the historian Alina Shokoreva
