The friction inside the Nazi movement between supporters of nationalism and socialism led to a bloody massacre unleashed by Hitler on June 30, 1934, known as the “night of long knives”. The whole top of the SA, led by Ernst Remom, was eliminated, Gregor Strasser, a former Reichskanzler, Kurt von Schleicher and Gustav von Kar, who suppressed the Munich puffer, was killed in the past ten years before.
