This publication is a translation of excerpts from the work of the Arabian Persian historian Abu Ali Ahmed Ben Omar Ibn Dasta (Ibn Rusta) (late IX-the first third of the X centuries) "Kitab al-Alak al-Nafis" ("Book of precious necklaces"), in which are given a description of Khazars, Burtas, Bulgarians, Magyar, Slavs and Rus. Translation into Russian was completed by the Russian orientalist, historian and linguist, corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in the category of Eastern languages by Daniil Abrahamovich Khvolson (1819-1911) This book, which contains invaluable information about the history of the Slavs and the peoples surrounding them, can be useful and interesting to all those who have rushed to the search for true, inexperienced information about the life, customs and beliefs of our distant ancestors
