The history of the largest military-political bloc in Europe, NATO, originates in the post-war era. Created as part of the doctrine of the confrontation between the two superpowers of the twentieth century, the USSR and the USA, this alliance initially wore a purely defensive function and served as the consolidation of the forces of European states for the speedy restoration after the Second World War. However, over time, the defensive union turned into an aggressive military bloc designed to ensure the military superiority of the only “real” world hegemon - the USA.
During the geopolitical shocks of the late twentieth century, NATO passed to the implementation of a creeping expansion strategy to the east, which led to a cold confrontation with the Soviet Union, and later with the Russian Federation.
