From the first days of World War II in Moscow, the call of citizens to mobilize the Red Army began, and already on July 2, 1941 - to join the People’s militia. Tens of thousands of Muscovites of different ages and professions voluntarily came to draft points with the only desire - to go to the front and fight the enemy. In total, in Moscow in the summer and autumn of 1941, 16 divisions of the people"s militia were formed. Most of them died in the October battles of 1941 near Vyazma, fulfilling their duty to the end - to delay at all costs the advance of the enemy to Moscow. One of them was the 13th division of the People’s militia of the Rostokinsky district (after the reorganization - the 140th Infantry Division) It so happened that the number 13 was not only its serial number, but also as if laid a fatal imprint on its front -line path: on October 13, 1941, after 13 days of stubborn battles, the division died almost in full force in the Vyazemsky boiler.
