The subject of historical and cultural research in this monograph was the Institute of Old Russian ministers of a pagan cult, including both professional priests (magi, sorcerers and wizards), as well as wandering buffoons (musicians, storytellers, guards, demoniacs) The first part of the study defines the main functions of ancient Russian ministers of pagan cults, the main priestly clans were identified, the hierarchical structure of the East Slavic priesthood, its charter and the main sources of financing of ancient Russian pagan temples and their ministers are identified. The second part is dedicated to the place and role of ancient Russian ministers of the pagan cult in the religious and political life of the Eastern Slavs of the 9th-XI centuries.
