During the Civil War, Mikhail Vasilievich Frunze commanded the eastern and southern red fronts, defeated the white armies of Kolchak and Wrangel, occupied Crimea, headed the Soviet armed forces in Ukraine. After the war, Frunze was appointed chief of the General Staff of the Red Army and the Military Academy of the Red Army, then - the chairman of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR and the People’s Commissar for Military and Marine Affairs.
