The proposed training manual “Measurement of the past” contains materials on the methodology of teaching the training course “Quantitative methods in historical research”. Based on many years of experience in teaching this academic discipline at the History Faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, authors introduce a student audience with modern discussions in the historical community about the methodology of history in the conditions of a “digital turn”, give a characteristic of measurement as an instrument of cognitive activity of a person and a methodological tool for knowing the past by a historian. The manual contains visual presentations characterizing the theme of lectures, as well as auxiliary materials that reveal the methods of work of historians with various kinds of historical data using quantitative methods and computer technologies. The training manual “Measurement of the past” is addressed to students of the undergraduate of the History Faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, and can also be used by teachers and graduate students in the preparation of lectures and seminars, which will contribute to professional growth and acquisition of fundamental education
