The next - the fourth in a row - the release of “Materials for the genealogy of the Smolensk nobility” is entirely devoted to the publication of documents related to the city of Smolensk and Smolensk bourgeois. As you know, in contrast to “not a sample” to other cities of Russia, the Posad population of Smolensk and its “suburbs” of White, Roslal and Doroghuzha were called the western manner of philistines and retained the rudiments of Magdeburg law, the main of which was the right to own city lands settlement them peasants and yard people. A number of Smolensk noble names are of philistine origin and dates back to the middle of the XVII century. Much later, legends about their Polish gentry arose in these families, which often they even managed to receive an official statement by the authorities. The documents published in this issue clarify the genealogy of quite a lot of noble families - immigrants from bourgeois, ordered or urban clergy - and will become a good help in the study of the urban population of Smolensk of the 17th - 18th centuries. generally.
The publication is addressed to historians, genealogues, local historians and all those interested in the history of the city of Smolensk and its inhabitants.
