Collective work is dedicated to the memory of an employee of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Leonidovich Shemyakin (1960–2018) The works discuss the history of the Slavic peoples and Russia in the XVIII - XXI centuries, as well as the scientific contribution of A. Lobachevsky and the Institute of Contemporary History of Serbia (Belgrade) The book continues the scientific project “Man in the Balkans” (2002–2016), initiated by A. L. Shemyakin, in the focus of which the process of modernization in the Balkans in modern times (after 1878) was located
