The new book of the famous historian A.V. Shubin tells about the leader of the mass rebel movement, anarchist Nestor Makhno. The life of the "Old Man" is shown against the wide background of the events of the revolution and the Civil War in Russia and in Ukraine. A lot of heroes are taking place before the reader’s eyes: Lenin and Denikin, Stalin and Petliura, Siberians and Ukrainians, residents of the capitals and village hinterlands. Describing the development of the Makhnovsky movement in detail, confirming his statements with references to documents of that stormy era, the author at the same time shows how the history of the country changed under the influence of the masses of people who decided to fight for freedom and social justice. Finging from red and white and at the same time influencing their policy, Makhnovtsy and other rebels, which are also discussed in the book, began to create their unusual self -government society. They defeated in an unequal struggle. But, having retreated from Ukraine, Makhno continued the struggle for his ideals in exile. As shown in the book, he had a considerable impact on the development of the world anarchist movement, which soon had to give fascism in Spain
