The book Madrid in antiquity and the Middle Ages is devoted to the history of the city and the surrounding regions (modern autonomous community of Madrid) from antiquity to the middle of the 15th century. The focus of the author is the era of the Middle Ages, when the urban history of the Spanish capital itself begins: in the 9th century. On the border lands of Al-Andalus, the Majit fortress was founded. A wide panorama of urban history was created in the monograph: it is told about the foundation of the city, about Muslim Madrid, its conquest by Christians and related to this change in all aspects of urban life. We are talking about legal proceedings and management, organizing church life, about the economy and finance, relations of the city and districts, the city community and its relations with the royal power. In the form of an application, the commented translation into Russian “Fuero Madrid 1202”, the most famous text created in the medieval Madrid, is included in the work.
