Karl Mannerheim is one of the most famous politicians of the 20th century. Lieutenant General of the Russian Imperial Army, after the 1917 revolution, he fled to Finland, where he became the feldmarshal of the Finnish army, and then the president of this country. Under the leadership of Mannerheim in Finland, a powerful defensive line, named after him, was built in the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. She significantly complicated the advance of the Red Army. In his memoirs, Karl Mannerheim describes the service at the court of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and the Russian Army, a revolution in Russia, difficult relations between Finland and the USSR in interwar times, the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 and the Finnish war with the Soviet Union in 1941-1944 years. Particular attention is paid to imperial aspirations of Russia and the USSR as well as the place of Russia-SSR in European politics
