Anatoly Alekseevich Spassky (1866-1916) - a wonderful Russian historian of the ancient Church, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, a student and successor to the department of the famous A.P. Lebedev. "Lectures on the history of the Western European Middle Ages" thematically cover the period of the history of the Roman Empire from the beginning of the 4th century. Before the emergence of large city centers in the era of feudalism (up to the XII century) The life and unions of Germanic tribes, the emergence of the barbaric kingdoms in the era of the great resettlement of peoples, the history of the Frankish kingdom and monarchy of Charles the Great were considered in detail. The book shows that only the church could be and, ultimately, became the support and basis of the new state system of Europe after the destruction of the Roman Empire as a result of the invasion of the barbarians. Like all the works that came out of the pen of A. A. Spassky, these "lectures" have all the usual virtues of its texts: a high scientific level, interesting content and excellent presentation
