The book of the German historian Roman Teppel is based mainly on the materials of German archives and the works of German historians and memoirists, many of whom have not yet been available to the Russian -speaking reader. The myths that exist in the German and Russian historiography of the Battle of Kursk, he debunk, relying on documents, letters and diaries, modern to this event, and not on the later memoirs and documents that gave rise to legends. The basis of his work is the magazines (diaries) of the Wehrmacht’s hostilities, from Army groups to divisions, as well as some preserved meetings of Hitler’s meetings, personal diaries and letters of one of the main characters in the Battle of Kursk-Field Marshal Erich von Manstein, who then commanded Army Group South
