The next volume of the fundamental series "Peoples and Culture" is devoted to the history and culture of the Jews of the former Russian Empire.
The monograph addresses the general issues of the ethnogenesis of the Jewish people and its history in antiquity and the Middle Ages, the features of anthropological appearance and languages, as well as the problems of studying Jewish folklore and ethnography in different countries. The main attention is paid to the ethnopolitical history and the originality of the traditional culture of Russian Jews - their studies, costume, rituals of the life cycle, rituals of religious holidays, food, folk knowledge, folklore, decorative and applied art, education and much more. Special sections cover the diverse processes occurring among Jews in the modern world, the relationship of Jews with the peoples surrounding them. In some sections, historical and ethnographic materials for non -Ashkenes groups - Georgian and Bukhara Jews and Jewish are given.
