The new book of the Russian historian V.V. Pennsky is dedicated to the complex and contradictory time in the history of the Russian state and a person who has become a symbol of this time, to Ivan the Terrible. The long rule of Ivan IV, in essence, summed up the results of the Rurikovich dynasty at the top of the Russian political Olympus. The first Russian king completed the case, begun by his great -grandfather Vasily II and grandfather Ivan III, - the collection of lands and power. He completed the building of the Russian "serving state", which was then repeatedly rebuilt, especially under Peter the Great, and lasted until the second half of the 18th century, when his gradual dismantling began under Catherine II. This process was complicated and by no means straightforward - after a jerk forward, made under Ivan III, there was a lull under Vasily III, when both the country and power seemed to be preparing, saving strength and energy before a new jump. The unexpected death of Vasily III postponed this process for a while. The author talks about the years of the Boyar Board, which came after the death of Father Ivan IV, the period of "interrelation" and timelessness, when the personality and character of the future formidable king was formed, and how his path to power began.
