1697. In a small Piedmont village, Giovan Battista Keza was arrested, a priest who was engaged in mass exiles of demons, contrary to the instructions of the archbishop. The condemnation and subsequent disappearance of the protagonist becomes the starting point of the study, in which the history of a separate life correlates with the general theoretical concepts put forward by scientists in relation to the 17th century. Giovanni Levy? -? One of the founders of the microhistoric approach - reconstructs the biographies of all the inhabitants of the village who left a documentary trace, and with the help of these materials suggests in a new way to interpret the important aspects of the European life of the early new time - from the mechanisms of the functioning of the land market and family strategies to the formation of before the formation local political layer and cultural characteristics of the opposing social groups. The story of Giovan Battista Kyza shows that one of the key problems of everyday rural life in the old regime was to preserve intangible values when changing generations: power, prestige, positions, professional skills. In this example, the author demonstrates how many events that determine for the development of society happen at a time when, at first glance, nothing happens in people"s lives.
