The public organization "Historical Club of Sevastopol Tauride", together with the Holy Clipper Monastery, this reprint edition is continued by the series Ancient Guide as part of the publishing project The Christian Heritage of Tauris".
The emergence of the monastery associates the church legend with the veneration of the holy martyr of Clement, the bishop of the city of Rome, in 98, exiled for the preaching of Christianity in the quarry near modern Inkerman and adopted the martyrdom in 101 in the vicinity of Chersonesos. In 861, part of the relics of St. Clement were acquired by the holy Equal -to -Apostles Cyril and Methodius and transferred to Rome. Thanks to the heavenly patronage of St. Clement, in 868, the Roman pontiff Adrian II allowed the service in the Slavic language, carried out before that exclusively in three canonical languages: Latin. Greek and Hebrew.
St. Clement played a special role in the baptism of Russia. Baptized in 988, St. Prince Vladimir transferred part of his relics from Chersonesos to Kyiv. Thus, Clement became the first saint of Ancient Russia, under his heavenly patronage its baptism passed, the relics of the holy martyr became the first Christian shrine.
The Holy Clipper Monastery in Inkerman is the only active Orthodox cave monastery in the world in honor of St. Clement of Roman.
The publication is supplemented by illustrations selected in accordance with the structure of the guide. The content, spelling and stylistics of the author’s text are mostly preserved.
