The approval of Calvinism in Pfalz to the board of Elector Friedrich III (1559 - 1576) was chronologically the first model of Calvinist Reformation in Germany, however, unlike the Prussian model, Pfalzi Calvinism began to be studied only in the second half of the twentieth century, in a wake of interest in the problems of confessionalization. Nevertheless, the causes and driving forces of the Calvinist Reformation in the Paalz remained beyond the boundaries of both foreign and domestic historians. The figure of Frederick itself, a representative of the generation of the princes of the Augsburg world, to whom the national-political German historiography refused the so-called state thinking, is not well studied. The author tried to reconstruct the biography of Frederick III and show that religious beliefs and political priorities formed in the winter period of his life were a decisive factor in the introduction of reformed creed in the Palata. Along with this, N. A. Berezhnaya (Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University) analyzes the theological views of the successor of Luther Philip Melanchton and their influence on the religious situation in the principality
