About the book
Mummies, tombs and amazing treasures stored in them - these images immediately arise in the mind with the word "Egyptology". Our story is about ancient Egypt and what happened when people died in this country thousands of years ago. About how they imagined life after death, and how they buried the dead.
Many people know that at that time preparations for the funeral of the richest and most important Egyptians were very thorough, not to mention the rulers of the country, pharaohs. Sometimes for the dead were built carefully planned, richly decorated tombs hidden from prying eyes with incredible ingenuity. The history of the discovery of these ancient burials is almost as exciting as the history of the ruins themselves.
This book is about the tombs of outstanding people of the ancient world: Imhotep, Nefertiti, Alexander of Macedon, Cleopatra and others. Time has preserved their names in ancient texts, hieroglyphs and writing in different languages. They are carved on the walls of the temples, written on papyrus and other artifacts found in tombs of that time. They are found in the historical works of classical authors and in later works. The very opportunity to find a place for repose, and maybe even the remains of these celebrities of antiquity, inspired many historians and archaeologists at the expedition to Egyptian deserts full of ruins. Our story about what these archaeologists faced, and about whether in principle it is possible to find tombs that they so dreamed of excavation.
This book is by no means about the life of ordinary inhabitants of Ancient Egypt. She talks about the famous pharaohs and other ancient celebrities, their achievements, the innumerable wealth that they accumulated in their lives and took with them to the grave. As well as about archaeologists who put their lives on the exhausting search for tombs, and how the legendary circumstances of their burial for the work of scientists influenced.
The book is saturated with an exciting sense of expectation of a new discovery. I gathered in it stories about sensational finds made in the past and about research, which currently lasted. And I hope that I managed to convey my confidence that many more amazing discoveries are waiting for us in the future.
For whom this book
For everyone who is interested in the history and culture of ancient civilizations.
For all lovers of historical and archaeological quests.
