After the release, she returned to the first foster family, the Van Esov family. Bart Van Es, a British philologist, a teacher of Oxford, always knew that his grandparents sheltered a Jewish girl, who was brought up as his child. Lin was part of his family, but some event in the past broke off all ties. He goes on a trip to the Netherlands to find Lin to find out and tell her story. Documentary research has become a deeply personal experience for the author. The book was awarded the British Costa Prize in 2018
