"Jews made up the second largest ethno -confessional group as part of the first wave of Russian emigration. After the Nazis came to power in Germany, and especially after the outbreak of World War II, the second stage of their wandering began: from Germany to France, Belgium, Poland, Latvia, from Europe to the USA. Many had to change more than one country in an effort to escape from the persecution of the Nazis. Not everyone managed to escape, however. This edition publishes an extensive correspondence of Alexei Alexandrovich Goldenweiser (1890–1979), lawyer, publicist and emigrant public figure. In 1937, he moved from Berlin to New York and became a kind of joinish on the affairs of Russian-Jewish emigrants and the chronicle of their struggle for existence. Among the correspondents of Goldenweiser - M. A. Aldanov, I. V. Gessen, O. O. Gruzenberg, G. A. Landau, V.V. Nabokov, other prominent figures of emigration, dozens of ordinary emigrants. The correspondence stored in the Bakhmetev Archive of the Columbia University in New York is a unique source on the history of Russian-Jewish emigration of the eve and the first years of the world disaster "
