At the beginning of the 20th century, Hohenzollerns were one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, European dynasty. This situation was the result of a complex, winding path of almost a thousand years long, a difficult ascent of a small South German noble family to the heights of power. This path was replete with ups and falls, dramatic turns, wars and intrigues. Representatives of the dynasty were very different: from good -natured ones, more intelligent, moving away from state affairs, to "iron people", who did not give a descent to themselves or others. The book, the author of which is the large German historian Otto Hinze, tells about the first steps of the Hohenzollerns on the way to glory and power, about the time when they were only one of the many German dynasties - from XII to the beginning of the 17th century
