Alexey Konstantinovich Bayov (1871-1935) - Russian military leader and historian, professor of the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff, author of many works dedicated to domestic armed forces. His main work, which is represented by the reader in this publication, is the course of the history of Russian military art, written in 1909-1913. At the beginning of the twentieth century, it is unlikely that anyone was better versed in the history of Russian military art than A.K. Bayov. Emperor Nicholas II, who was very sparingly and carefully given characteristics to his subjects, called Professor Bayov "column of the Nikolaev Academy". "History of Russian military art" in the presentation of a real combat general, a person with the highest ideas about the honor of a Russian officer - this is not just a listing of facts, surnames and dates. Each era of development of the Russian state is described by A.K. Bayov precisely from the point of view of the formation and development of military art. Why did the parties approach the decisive battle in such a composition, why did they meet in this place and at that time? Why, when, it would seem, all the preparations before the battle spoke in favor of one side, but the result was completely opposite? The answer is obvious - because there is such a factor as military art. And without him - and this repeatedly proves in his book A.K. Bayov - victories that make up the glorious history of the domestic armed forces would not be possible. The publication is richly illustrated by rare historical materials, equipped with notes and comments, as well as a detailed named index
