You opened the pages of the first issue of the magazine "History and Archives" - a new scientific publication of the Russian State Humanitarian University.
Our magazine is available for various scientific points of view and discussions, its international editorial board will strive for the thematic diverse of publications, which will be reflected in the analysis of the facts, events and processes of domestic and world history, fundamental and applied problems of document management and archivistant.
The theoretical and practical issues of source studies and historiography will take a worthy place in the journal. Particular attention in the journal will be paid to research based on the introduction of archival documents not previously published and the analysis of previously not published - the most important historical sources.
The increase in the scale of the archival system and the improvement of archaeographic methods, the complication and intensification of document management, the rapid distribution of new technologies for processing, transferring and storage of information force to look at the nature of the document and the role of archives in modern society. The processes of globalization increased interest in national historical and cultural phenomena reflected in archival documents. Systemic understanding and management of the information society is impossible without a reliable, authentic, holistic and affordable source base. An interdisciplinary approach to the corps of genetically interconnected sources as historical phenomena, as cultural phenomena will be defined in scientific articles published in the journal. The document, including the archival, communicative function of which lies in its ability to be a source of information, at the same time appears to be a reflection of problem situations and value guidelines and occupies a special place in society as an in general, inherent in human trace. The study of urgent problems of historical archival studies, the archival component of research in the field of history and the significance of documentary heritage in the system of cultural values will allow to analyze the issues of interaction and harmonious combination of the results of historians and archivists in the interests of information support for historical science.
One of the goals of the magazine is to summarize the modern experience of using in historical research stored in archives, manuscript departments of museums and libraries of historical sources. The historian cannot carry out fruitful surveys in the field of the past without relying on the holistic archival archive fund of documents. Without methodically set and systematic work on the study of its composition, origin and fate of archival complexes, a historical study of events and phenomena is impossible.
The researcher’s task is to learn how to read not only archival documents, but also the archival "fabric", understand the historical and cultural context in which they were created, selected, described and preserved. Understanding the originality of the process of searching for archival documents makes it possible to focus on the heuristic significance of source studies, document management and archival studies as a single whole in the system of information support of historical science.
The first issue of the journal History and Archives" is made up of historical studies based on the analysis of previously unknown archival documents, scientific articles on the problems of theory, history and modern practice of document management and archival studies, archaeographic studies.
