For the first time in historiography, historical textology is presented as an independent discipline, which is an important part of the professional training of the historian. The training manual understand the theoretical issues related to the definition of the text as a source of retrospective information, as well as the main terms of historical textology and shows what its difference from classical philological textology is. The specifics of textological procedures in the source and concrete historical study are considered and the close connection of historical textology with various historical and auxiliary disciplines is traced.
A special place in the book is occupied by a section on the analysis of specific historical and textological “incident” - scientific reconstructions of the past illustrating the theoretical provisions of the textbook. Among them are such bright stories as the origin of the ancient Russian princes on the maternal line and the blood bonds of Prince Igor with the Polovtsy, the "cursed" Svyatopolk and the Antichrist, the frontal place as the Calvary and the oprichnaya policy of Ivan the Terrible as the expectation of the end of the world.
