In the history of Soviet dissidentism, the historical collection "Memory", the five issues of which were published in 1976-1982, occupies a special place. "Memory" differed from other Samizdat and Tamizdat publications by the desire for scientific, academic and at the same time unquestioned understanding of the past. In fact, this was one of the first attempts to organize an independent humanitarian periodical in the USSR. In modern literature dedicated to the Soviet dissident movement, "memory" is often mentioned as an important milestone in its history. This book is the first scientific research on this collection. Based on unpublished materials and interviews with participants, the authors of the book are trying to describe in detail how the plan of this publication arose, to recreate the sequence and mechanism of work on each of the five issues, and also to analyze the materials of the collection. For the first time, the circle of authors "memory" was determined, data on the authorship of articles are given, sources of memories and archival materials published in the collection are named. The book also includes interviews with the creators of "memory", held mainly in 2013-2015
