Herodotus is an outstanding ancient Greek scientist and traveler of the 5th century. BC, according to the winged expression of Cicero "Father of History", the author of the famous treatise "History", describing the Greek-Persian wars and the customs of many modern peoples. His work is a real encyclopedia of that time: there is geographical information, and ethnographic, and natural-historical and literary. Some researchers consider this text not only the most important and earliest of the monuments of European historical thought, but also of artistic prose. The works of Herodotus were of great importance for ancient culture, since they studied almost the whole world, known at that time to the inhabitants of the Mediterranean. The critical method of describing facts and the fascinating style of presentation of Herodotus became an authoritative model for many ancient and medieval authors. The History of Herodotus has always been valued in our country, since it was and remains a unique source in the history of Great Scythia and many ancient peoples in the territory of modern Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan.
