For a long time, the name of George Sergeyevich Agabekov was banned. The author of the book is one of the first high -ranking employees of the OGPU to tear with the Stalinist regime and escaped from the USSR to the west. As a resident in Turkey, in 1930 he stopped communicating and moved to Paris. For seven years, Agabekov was on the run and during this time he wrote several books in which he spoke about the methods of Soviet intelligence. Attempts to destroy the traitor in 1931 and 1934 were unsuccessful, taking advantage of their knowledge of the work of the Cheka OGPU, the traitor was able to avoid liquidation. However, in 1937 he was eliminated by the NKVD special group in France. In the book proposed, Agabekov tells his history of work in the Cheka, and also offers his own version of the events that pushed it to betrayal
