Walter Shaidel (sometimes he is called Walter Sheidel in the English manner) - Austrian historian, professor Stanford, specialist in the field of economic history and historical demography, author of a bright historical concept, which establishes a connection between violence and the level of inequality. Stable, peaceful times favors economic inequality, and cruel shocks reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. Shaidel calls the four main causes of such a reduction, comparing them with the four riders of the apocalypse - a symbol of chaos and a global disaster. These four horsemen are war, revolution, the collapse of the state and large -scale epidemics. All these factors, except for the latter, are associated with endless violence, and all, without exception, entail endless suffering and millions of victims.
