Since December 1990, Gennady Ivanovich Yanaev served as vice president of the Soviet Union, i.e. was the first deputy M.S. Gorbacheva. However, during the August events of 1991, Yanaev opposed Gorbachev, headed the State Emergency Committee (GKChP) and was appointed president of the USSR. After the defeat of the GKChP, Gennady Yanaev was brought to criminal liability and placed in prison, from where he was released three years later under the amnesty of the State Duma.
For almost twenty years he kept silence about these events, deciding only shortly before his death to tell the truth about August of the 91st and genuine role of M. Gorbachev then. Yanaev’s book was quickly sold out, because it is one of the main participants in the fateful 1991, now readers are offered the next edition of this book for the thirtieth anniversary of the collapse of the USSR
