The head of the Istanbul branch of Abwehr Paul Leverkun in his book described in detail what, in fact, was this organization, how it was arranged and what functions performed. Abwehr, originally designed to combat the activities of foreign intelligence services, gradually expanded, creating intelligence departments outside Germany. Based on the stories and memoirs of colleagues, Leverkun brought the most important and characteristic episodes of the work of Abwehr in Poland, the USSR, the Scandinavian states and countries of the Middle and Middle East: espionage, sabotage, and the extraction of military-political information. The author did not ignore Admiral Canaris, under whose leadership Abwehr became the main intelligence department of the Wehrmacht
