The work of the German medical historian Arthur Winkler is devoted to the activities of Hanseatic merchants in Russia from the moment of establishing trade ties in the XII century until the end of the existence of the Hanseatic Union. The fate of the author is the fate of the German trade factory in Veliky Novgorod (the so -called "court of St. Peter").
Many are very surprised to learn that the basis of the relations of the two peoples was by no means combat clashes, but peaceful trade affairs. It is this side of our general history that Winkler’s book, written on the basis of a thorough study of Hanseatic archives.
