The content of the course was built in accordance with the main ideas of the state educational standard (integration of physical, geographical and socio-economic knowledge, humanization and strengthening of social aspects), taking into account the principles of complexity, environmentalization and historicism.
The textbook discusses the geographical position and formation of the state territory of Russia, its nature and the population. The educational material is presented compactly, to facilitate understanding, the text is illustrated by various schemes and drawings. Creative and problematic tasks are aimed at developing schoolchildren. A special role belongs to issues of a worldview character related to the modernity and personal experience of students.
