General history

The “General History” of Polybia is one of the most exciting and bright monuments of ancient historical thought. The Greek by origin, Polybius went a long and difficult path, alternately becoming a politician, then a warrior, then an honorary captive of the Romans, then, finally, a chronicler. Its composition is all the more valuable because it is written by a person who was not only a witness, but also an active participant in the events described by him.
