The textbook is intended to study the foundations of oceanology and hydrophysics. Information about the basic concepts of the hydrosphere and its environmental problems, methods of oceanological research are given. The main hydrophysical processes in the ocean are considered. The structure of the oceanic bottom and shelf, the origin and evolution of the ocean are described. The history of the study of the oceans is briefly stated.
