The crimes of Nazism are well known to the whole world, but how and under what circumstances they became possible in Germany?

Konrad Heiden is a famous German journalist-antifashist, a social democrat. He was a contemporary of Hitler and an eyewitness to the formation of National Socialism. Being an irreconcilable enemy of the Nazis, Heiden recorded all the circumstances of Hitler"s arrival to power. In 1932, his critical “History of National Socialism” was published in Berlin. In 1935, he was forced to leave Germany and flee to France. A few years later, Heiden published the first serious biography of Hitler in two volumes, for which he was deprived of German citizenship and property in Germany.

Heiden published the proposed publication in 1944 in the United States. In the book, the author shows how an aggressive National Socialist Party that seized power in Germany grew out of a small Munich circle of single-minded nationalists. The Nazis" path to big politics was accompanied by pogroms, murders and provocations, and Heiden fixed them with maximum accuracy.

How did the Weimar Republic turn into the Third Reich in a few years? How was Goethe and Schiller"s nation was guilty of terror and the Holocaust? Was Germany a chance to maintain freedom and democracy? Read about this in the exciting and still actual study of Conrad Heiden
