The book contains a description of the fourth, last expedition of the great Russian traveler Nikolai Mikhailovich Przhevalsky (1839-1888) to Central Asia in 1883-1885, the route of which at 7800 km covered the vast territory of the poorly exposed and unexplored lands of domestic Asia. The expedition crossed the Gobi desert from north to south, penetrated to the origins of the yellow river, passed along the northern outskirts of Tibet and through the lob -nor and the Tarim basin came to the limits of Russia - Karakalu. For two years, the richest physical and geographical, ethnographic and cartographic material was collected, which served as an important addition to meager knowledge of the nature and population of Central Asia and a valuable source of information used by major geographers. A strict and systematic presentation of scientific material, combined with a fascinating literary form is a classic model of scientific and at the same time popular geographical work, accessible and interesting to a wide range of readers
