In Europe, early New Age, women, belonging to various Christian denominations, often showed their piety in ways that went far beyond the norms of the norms - passivity and humility, following the ideal of “heroic holiness”, implying strict austerity, martyrdom and missionaryness. Nevertheless, the active activity of pious women was often encouraged, especially in conditions of religious persecution. These aspects of the religiosity of women of the early New Age, especially their missionary activity, remain poorly studied. The monograph proposed to the reader is one of the first studies of descriptions of the female mission in the framework of the English Catholic community of the XVI-XVII centuries, in which the circle of relevant texts has been revealed, their genre affiliation, the features of the language, the used images and rhetorical strategies were analyzed. The monograph also discusses the social and political aspects of the activity of English Catholics.
