The book covers the last period of the existence of the Byzantine Empire, which ended with the capture of Constantinople on May 29, 1453 by the Ottomans. Despite the extremely difficult external and internal position, Byzantium over the past two centuries has still been a grandiose spiritual, political, cultural and military force, successfully confronts attempts at expansion from the Turks and West.
The book reveals in detail the events of the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth Crusades, as well as attempts to organize the union with the Roman Catholic Church in Lyon and Ferraro, the famous Ishihastan cathedrals of the mid-XIV century. In the center of this narrative are figures of brilliant Byzantine emperors - Theodore Laskaris, St. John Duki Vataca, Michael VIII and St. Konstantin Paleologists and other Vasilevs.
